The case for minority sports
Cricket takes almost all of Pakistan’s sporting attention and nearly all of its sponsorship. Everything else competes for what is left, which means a modest amount of backing goes considerably further in taekwondo than it would in cricket.
Taekwondo is also one of the few Olympic disciplines where Pakistani athletes compete internationally without a professional league behind them.
Where the support goes
Backing at venue level reaches athletes who train there regularly rather than a single marquee event. Hayatabad Sports Complex is one of Peshawar’s main public sporting facilities.
